Status update (?)
I am going to be honest: in the last few months nothing has been done on the project. However, I am planning to resume it, especially because I face some real challenge with the new Lua 5.2. I think I'll wait till 5.2 goes stable (and the PtokaX implementation too), then I'll resume coding, for real. Stay tuned and please bear with me.
Discussion group started!
I was pulling my hair out in order to set up the infrastructure integrated... and here we go, as a Christmas present, Posterous has created the Groups feature that is a mailing list-like thing on steroids. I think it is oerfect for a low-traffic discussion forum thingy, so click the link in the navigation menu and start posting to the group. This can be done by sending an e-mail to post@freshstuff3-discuss.posterous.com with no signing up or anything.
Links updated (project page) and some news
The mtn-host site allows file uploads, so I alsohost the files there but they get uploaded here as well. I have also linked the project page in case any developer would like to get involved with the project. The coding is going along slowly, but the project is still alive. I just need to catch up with things, I sometimes think that 24 hours ain't enough for a day. :-)
ZOMG WE HAS TWITTER!!!!11
Yeah, folks, I have set this Twitter thing up. Just in case it helps you follow the things going on with Freshstuff3.
I am not really into the microblogging thing, to be honest. Twitter is only good for a project to update users on a particular thing, in my opinion. Why have a thing that limits you to 140 characters so you are forced to abuse bit.ly (or post.ly for that matter)? :-P
Whatever my opinion on Twitter is, here you go, enjoy.
Roadmap updated
The roadmap has been updated to reflect my real plans. :–)
Lua For Windows, you suck bigtime
Lua for Windows is a ‘batteries included environment’ for the Lua scripting language on Windows.
MY BIG FAT ASS
My laptop died a few weeks ago. Actually, back in May. :–) No worries, I had everything backed up here and there, except for my SciTE config files. I could recreate them, but I am lazy and my time is limited, so I started searching for an editor that works out-of-the box. Here I found that LFW has a turbocharged version of SciTE bundled that can even do the washing up. Okay, fine, downloaded the package and installed it. Fine. Let’s go coding! SciTE says: the lua 5.1 dll can not be found. I had to go to the installation folder and copy the dll to the SciTE subfolder. SciTE started, great. Let’s test that iutteh-bitteh-debug-commiteh then. Pressing F5 reveals that it tries to run lua without any paths, so I had to manually place it into %WINDIR% or %SYSTEMDIR% to make it run, because the LFW installation folder is not being added to the path during the installation.
LFW creators/‘developers’, I have only one question now: why bother with creating an INSTALLER? Zip it up, and offer that package for download. The installer does nothing extra over a zip. Oh wait, it does: creates a Start menu directory. SRSLY
On the other hand, I have to admit that the editor is really nicely customized, once you get it up and running. :–)
What? Are you surprised? I'm stayin' alive...
Unbelievably the site is back.
Different look, different address (at least for now), but it is back. The project is not dead, in fact it has never been, I have just put it on a hiatus. Now that I am here, I am trying to guess questions that may arise.
What is this site?
I have stumbled across this service months ago, then I had to focus on LIFE (yes, I haz it) but I have once again stumbled across this, signed up and thought it could be my script vault. It has advantages like email posting and static pages. And, it is a Web 2.0 thing, in a sense that the readers feel that we are in 2010, for real. Oh, and since my time is limited, it removes the burden of maintaining an own web server, upgrade stuff etc. Posterous covers my needs.
But what have you been doing lately?
As mentioned above, I also have a life. I had many, many changes in my life that I do not want to share here, because I hate typing. :–)
So wazzup with FreshStuff3 then?
Well, see the roadmap.
Where is the forum?
I don’t plan a separate forum. The forum will be integrated into the PtokaX Lua Board, I think. There is no point in separating myself off of the main board. People hate signing up for like 500 different sites.
Downloads?
See the main menu if you haven’t done so yet. :-P
So is this a blog?
No and yes. I will post irrelevant things so as to make the whole thing not appear so geeky. :-D
FreshStuff3 5.0.1
This is the most current release of FreshStuff3, originally released 26 May, 2008. It's more than two years, but hey, it works!
